Jennifer A. Ponting

Associate Vice President for Research Administration and Director, University Research Administration

As the AVP for Research Administration, Jennifer oversees a diverse portfolio and provides leadership for research administration services, including award management, research finance, contracting, conflict of interest, and related regulatory and sponsor requirements. She also drives collaborative initiatives to improve research administration business processes and service levels in support of the University’s mission of research and academic excellence.

Jennifer joined the University in September 2019 as Executive Director of Sponsored Programs for URA, where she led the University’s responses to changes in federal sponsor requirements regarding international collaborations and directed the campus-wide implementation of the AURA Agreements system.

Prior to joining UChicago, she was the Director, Pre-Award Services in the Office for Sponsored Programs at Harvard University. Jennifer also served as a Senior Contract Officer at Columbia Technology Ventures, the tech transfer and licensing office at Columbia University, as well as the Export Control Officer and Contract Specialist for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She received her B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts.

A rising leader in the field of Research Administration, Jennifer is a member of the Federal Demonstration Partnership (FDP), the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR), National Council of University Administrators (NCURA) and Association of University Export Control Officers (AUECO). She chairs NCURA’s Select Committee on Global Affairs and serves as member of COGR Board of Directors representing the Research Security & Intellectual Property Management committee.
