As Senior Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Larry is responsible for office-wide strategic planning and execution of strategic initiatives by increasing coordination and integration across all functional areas that fall within the Office’s oversight.  Larry also plays a key role in developing a communications strategy and capacity to enhance the Office’s overall ability to serve as a strong and effective voice for the University’s research enterprise.

Larry was most recently Senior Associate Provost, responsible for coordinating the planning and resourcing of a broad range of strategic programmatic and capital initiatives across campus.  His portfolio included Provost’s Office initiatives on computation and data science, energy and environment, and sustainability, as well as strategic space planning for applied sciences.

Before joining the Provost’s Office, Larry served under Donald Levy in the Office of the Vice President for Research, providing leadership for science initiatives and joint research efforts with Argonne and Fermilab.  Before that he served as Assistant Dean for Research Operations and Assistant Dean for Planning in the Biological Sciences Division and the Pritzker School of Medicine.  Larry received his MBA from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business (now Chicago Booth), an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and a BA in History from Indiana Wesleyan University.
