UChicago CASE

The University of Chicago Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering (UChicago CASE) grants University affiliation to approved scientists and scholars from affiliated institutions, currently Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the Field Museum, the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Paulson Institute. It may expand in the future to include other institutions.

Through UChicago CASE, scientists and scholars at these institutions receive a wide range of benefits, including greater ability to participate in joint research projects, streamlined access to facilities and opportunities to participate in diverse funding sources. Membership also opens up opportunities to jointly mentor students and postdocs with UChicago faculty.

The goal of UChicago CASE is to broaden the intellectual scope of research activities at the University of Chicago and affiliated institutions by building on their complementary strengths and catalyzing new collaborations in the biological, computational, physical and social sciences, engineering, and public policy.

Apply for membership as a UChicago CASE scientist or scholar.
Affiliated members have to be approved through a process determined by the school or area.

Apply to UChicago CASE as a staff member or postdoc.

Membership Categories

UChicago CASE has two membership categories: 1) members at large, and 2) members affiliated with a given unit. In each category, members will hold the title of Scientists, Scholars, Senior Scientists, or Senior Scholars, depending on rank at their home institution and area of specialization.

To ensure successful collaborations, a member of UChicago CASE will ideally be affiliated with a given unit at the University, such as a department or an institute. New members to UChicago CASE who have existing interactions with a unit can join as (Senior) Scientists/Scholars Affiliated with a Unit (subject to approval). However, it is also recognized that not all new members have the connections in place to become affiliated with a unit. New members to UChicago CASE can also join as (Senior) Scientists/Scholars At-large. From an At-large membership, (Senior) Scientists/Scholars may transition at a later date to be Affiliated with a Unit, or they may remain as (Senior) Scientists/Scholars At-large.
